Provider FAQ

Frequently Asked
Questions

Everything you need to know about adding home sleep testing to your practice.

Getting Started

How quickly can we start testing patients?

Most practices can start within a week. After signup, we verify your credentials (24-48 hours), provide a brief training (< 1 hour), and you can begin enrolling patients. If using ship-to-patient, there's zero setup time.

What credentials or certifications are required?

You need to be a licensed healthcare provider (MD, DO, NP, PA) or operate under the supervision of one. No sleep medicine specialty or certification is required—we handle all interpretation through our board-certified sleep physician network.

How much staff training is required?

Minimal. Most staff can be trained in under an hour. Training covers patient enrollment in the portal, device dispensing (if applicable), and basic troubleshooting. We provide video tutorials and documentation.

Do we need to buy devices upfront?

No. You can start with our ship-to-patient option ($129/study) which requires zero upfront investment. You can add in-office inventory later if you want.

Billing & Reimbursement

What CPT code do we bill for the sleep study?

Bill CPT code 95800 for unattended sleep study (Type III home sleep test). Some payers may also accept 95801. Our interpretation report includes the appropriate ICD-10 diagnosis codes.

What is typical insurance reimbursement?

Reimbursement varies by payer and geography, but typically ranges from $150-200 for CPT 95800.

Do you handle prior authorization?

No. Prior authorization is handled by the ordering practice and payer. If required, we provide any documentation you need to support the request.

What if a patient's study fails or is incomplete?

You are not charged for studies that do not meet quality thresholds. If a study fails (insufficient data, device malfunction, etc.), we provide a replacement at no additional cost.

When do we pay SleepDx?

We store a credit card on file during signup. Billing starts after the free trial and charges automatically at the end of each billing cycle.

Technology & Devices

What device does SleepDx use?

We use the CheckMe O2 Max, an FDA 510(k) cleared wrist-worn pulse oximeter. It's comfortable, easy to use, and captures high-quality SpO2 and heart rate data for accurate sleep apnea detection.

How does data get from the device to your platform?

The device syncs automatically via Bluetooth to the Celeste+ smartphone app. Data is uploaded to EnsoData's secure cloud platform for AI scoring, then routed to our interpreting physicians.

What is EnsoData?

EnsoData is our AI technology partner. Their EnsoSleep platform is FDA-cleared and has been trained on over 1 million polysomnograms. It achieves 94% sensitivity and 96% specificity for moderate-to-severe OSA.

Why 3 nights instead of 1?

Research shows significant night-to-night variability in sleep apnea severity. Multi-night testing captures this variability, reducing false negatives and providing more reliable diagnosis. Studies show ~10% of patients would be misclassified with single-night testing.

Is the data secure and HIPAA compliant?

Yes. All data is encrypted in transit and at rest. EnsoData and SleepDx are fully HIPAA compliant. We maintain BAAs with all vendors and implement industry-standard security practices.

Clinical & Interpretation

Who interprets the studies?

All studies are interpreted by board-certified sleep medicine physicians (ABIM certified). Our interpreting physicians hold licenses in multiple states to ensure coverage for your patient population.

How quickly do we get results?

Most studies are interpreted within 24-48 hours of the data being uploaded. You receive an email notification when the report is ready in your portal.

What does the report include?

Reports include AHI (Apnea-Hypopnea Index), ODI (Oxygen Desaturation Index), oxygen saturation statistics, sleep staging estimates, severity classification, and treatment recommendations with ICD-10 codes.

What if the results are inconclusive?

Our AI and physician reviewers flag inconclusive studies. We'll contact you to discuss options, which may include a repeat study at no additional charge or referral for in-lab polysomnography.

Can we still refer complex cases to sleep specialists?

Absolutely. Home sleep testing is appropriate for patients with high pre-test probability of moderate-to-severe OSA. Complex cases, suspected central sleep apnea, or patients with significant comorbidities should still be referred for comprehensive evaluation.

Workflow & Operations

How do patients return devices?

For in-office dispensing, patients return devices at a follow-up visit or drop them off. For ship-to-patient, we include a prepaid return label—patients simply drop the device in any mailbox.

What patient communication is automated?

We send automated emails and optional SMS for: study enrollment confirmation, device instructions, nightly reminders during the study, completion confirmation, and results availability notification.

How do we track study status?

Your portal dashboard shows real-time status for all patients: enrolled, device shipped, study in progress, awaiting interpretation, and completed. You can filter and search by date, status, or patient.

What if a patient has trouble with the device?

Patients can call our technical support line or use in-app help. Common issues are resolved via phone/chat. If needed, we ship a replacement device at no charge.

Treatment Pathway

What happens after a positive diagnosis?

For patients with AHI ≥ 5, our system generates treatment recommendations. You can order CPAP therapy through our preferred DME vendor network, which includes patient education and device setup.

Do you provide CPAP devices?

We partner with DME vendors who supply CPAP equipment. Our preferred vendors offer complimentary CPAP education sessions for patients, ensuring proper setup and early compliance.

What is Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM)?

RPM allows ongoing tracking of CPAP compliance via cloud-connected devices. You can bill CPT codes 99453-99458 for RPM services. We offer an optional RPM platform for practices interested in this revenue stream.

Can patients choose their own DME vendor?

Yes. While we recommend our preferred vendors for the best patient experience, patients are free to use any DME supplier. We provide the necessary documentation regardless of vendor choice.
